2026 Local Pricing Guide

What Does Concrete Cost in Innisfil, Barrie & Simcoe County?

Real numbers from a local contractor — no vague "call for pricing." Here’s what driveways, patios, walkways, steps and pads actually cost in our area in 2026, and what drives the price up or down.

Quick answer: most standard broom-finished concrete work in Simcoe County runs $10–$15 per square foot installed. A typical two-car driveway (600 sq ft) lands around $6,000–$9,000. Decorative finishes cost more; removal of an old surface adds to the total.

What Actually Drives the Price

Base Preparation

The #1 reason driveways fail early in Ontario is a skimped base. Proper excavation and a compacted granular base is what lets a slab survive our freeze-thaw winters — it's built into our pricing, never an "extra."

Concrete Mix

Exterior concrete here needs to be 32 MPa air-entrained. Cheaper quotes sometimes hide a weaker mix. Ask any contractor what mix they're pouring — a good one will tell you without hesitation.

Access & Site Conditions

Tight backyard access, slopes, tree roots, or poor drainage add labour. Wheelbarrow-only access costs more than truck-to-forms.

Removal & Disposal

Tearing out an old walkway or driveway adds roughly $2–$5 per square foot for breaking, hauling and dump fees.

Finish Selection

Broom finish is the workhorse — durable, slip-resistant, best value. Exposed aggregate and decorative finishes add cost but boost curb appeal.

Job Size

Bigger pours are cheaper per square foot. Delivery minimums and setup time hit small jobs hardest — pairing a walkway with a patio in one pour can save real money.

Concrete vs. Asphalt: The Honest Comparison

Asphalt is cheaper upfront — usually $4–$8 per square foot. But it needs resealing every 2–3 years and typically lasts 15–20 years. A properly poured concrete driveway lasts 25–30+ years with almost no maintenance. Over the life of the surface, concrete usually wins on total cost — and it looks better doing it. Frequently Asked Questions

How thick should my driveway be?
A minimum of 4–5 inches for residential driveways, over a properly compacted granular base. Thicker for heavy vehicles or garage aprons.
When can I drive on new concrete?
Stay off it with vehicles for at least 7 days. Foot traffic is fine after 24–48 hours. Concrete keeps gaining strength for about 28 days.
What time of year can you pour in Ontario?
Prime season is roughly May through October. See our guide on the best time of year to pour concrete in Ontario.
Do I need a permit?
Possibly — many municipalities require an entrance permit if you're widening a driveway or changing the curb cut. We'll flag this during your quote.
Should I seal my new concrete?
Yes — a quality sealer protects against de-icing salts and moisture. It's inexpensive relative to the slab and worth doing, especially on driveways.
How do I compare quotes fairly?
Don't compare bottom-line numbers until each quote spells out slab thickness, base prep, concrete mix, reinforcement, control joints, removal, and cleanup. See why the cheapest quote usually costs the most.
